When visiting the Cape's South peninsula, be sure to check out these amazing spots.
The Cape Point Nature Reserve, located at the tip of the South Peninsula is nothing short of magnificent. Visitors come into close contact with wildlife like baboons, eland, ostrich, and dassies and the views are breathtaking. The cliffs are nesting ground for the Cape Cormorants. Walk through many of the hiking trails of the area, book a night, or stop for a picnic on one of the many unspoilt beaches of the area. Just keep a look out for baboons, they will steal your lunch.
The Cape Peninsula is home to the vary unique and rare fynbos vegetation, with more than 2200 plant varieties, which is more plant variety than the entire UK. Some of the proteas here are found nowhere else on earth.
Boulders Beach is just outside Simon’s Town. Named for the ancient granite boulders that dot the beach like an abandoned game of giant marbles. This beach is home to a colony of African Penguins. Previously called jack-ass penguins for their donkey-like calls, these birds are native to South Africa and are probably the cutest things you will ever see. Brought to the verge of extinction by human settlement, the populations have started to grow again in this protected area. The scenery and views are spectacular and a popular stop for tourists and locals alike.
Take a costume and swim the cool waters with the penguins, but keep your kids close, as little fingers are a delicacy they can't resist.
