So, what’s the God of Carnage all about?
Two sets of parents get together to sort out a playground altercation between their 11 year old sons involving a stick and a broken tooth. Do they resolve things in a mature and adult way? Well they try, but their attempts at a civilized discussion fail dismally as decorum flies out the window and primal self- preservation kicks in. This fast and furious adult (16+) comedy is both brutal and hilarious and is performed by a cast of highly talented actors who bring to life the well-meaning parents we can so readily identify with.
The God of Carnage is written by Yasmina Reza and brilliantly translated from French by Christopher Hampton and is a winner of both a Tony and an Olivier Award.
The play is directed by Coleen van Staden who has a long association with the Masque Theatre and whose recent successes include Under Milk Wood and Mpinga Mornings - Rosebank Theatre, Kalk Bay Theatre and Grahamstown Festival 2016.
